Actor Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen as a school teacher in director Milind Ukey's "Paathshaala", says he has not done the film for any commercial reason, but the message of the film inspired him to be associated with it.
"We really want this film to be seen by people because it is saying something good. I haven't done this film for commercial reasons. I don't think Ahmad (Khan) made this for commercial reasons. We just believe in what the film is saying, we wanted to reach out to people," Shahid told reporters here Sunday. "People don't pick up a subject about children, the education system and try and make a film about it. You try and make a documentary and it becomes boring," he said.
"It's all the more difficult to find a subject and make it entertaining and make it like a story which has little bit of emotion, a little bit of comedy, drama and you want to sit through it. And so, all of us did this film because we wanted to participate in this process of trying to create awareness about something very relevant today," Shahid added.
Releasing April 16, "Paathshala" tries to answer questions related to the sanctity of today's education system. It sheds light on the shortcomings and wrong doings in today's schools where the high morals and basic ethics associated with the teaching profession seem to have taken a back seat. Throwing light on the message, he said: "There are lots of things that the film talks about. There are small situations in the film which signify various problems that children are going through."
"How schools compete with a high-end school in the locality and what happens to parents when there is a certain hike in fees. The kind of pressure children have to face when they have to attend school and match up to the studies and match up to the extra curricular activities and match up to the requirements of their parents."
Shahid is certain that "Paathshaala" is unlike actor Aamir Khan's "Taare Zameen Par", and praising Aamir he says "Taare Zameen Par" created a platform for others to make films on related subjects. "This film is nowhere near 'Taare Zameen Par'. But 'Taare Zameen Par' gave a platform for this type of film. Before that no one ever thought that this type of film could be made and released at the commercial level. 'Taare Zameen Par' talks about a dyslexic child and this film is about the general education system," Shahid said.
Shahid to revisit his childhood home and school in Delhi next week

Shahid Kapoor is set to relive his childhood memories on his next visit to Delhi next week. The actor grew up in Saket, South Delhi where he used to live in a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flat with his maternal grandparents.
Shahid will be meeting the tenants who now stay in his earlier residence. He will also be visiting his school, Gyan Bharti Public School.
Commenting on the visit, Shahid’s best friend and producer of the Shahid-starrer Paathshaala, Ahmed Khan says, “Everybody visits different cities for promoting their films but when we were working on Paathshaala, we decided that we would visit Shahid’s school and his old house too.
Shahid had mentioned that he never thought of going to his old house even though he has been to Delhi several times after permanently shifting base to Mumbai. We will be going there next week. Shahid wants to visit his old house and also meet the tenants who stay there now. He fondly remembers the old house, and the fact that he used to walk to his school which was 7-8 minutes away. It will be a walk down memory lane, which is exactly what our film is all about.”
Shahid says, “It’s a nostalgic feeling for me to go back to my school where I studied till fourth standard. I also hope to go to my old house B-16 where I stayed for 10 years with my maternal grandparents. Delhi is like home for me and it will be nice especially for a film like Paathshaala, which is all about students and education. It’s a great opportunity for me and I am excited.”

Shahid's birthday plans
Shahid’s birthday is still a week ahead but, the actor has already planned what he is going to do on his birthday. Sources reveal that the actor is planning a private party at his home with his family and friends. Currently the actor is shooting Jodhpur and will specially fly down to celebrate his birthday with family and close friends. A friend of Shahid said, “Shahid is pretty excited about the party and has been planning it for months.”
Shahid’s house is currently under renovation. “But he has seen to it that the renovation is completed before his birthday party. His freinds and family have already given an invitation and includes papa Pankaj Kapoor, stepmom Supriya Kapoor, their children Rohan and Sana, Shahid’s brother Ishaan (Neelima Azim and Rajesh Kattar’s son), his close friend from Bangalore Shriram, designer Sabina Khan, Ken Ghosh, Shahid’s trainer Abbas and a few other from the film industry.” Shahid has worked out the party details from Jodhpur.
